  • Why Do You Prep?

I am sure this has been asked on this board before, however we have so many new people here with us now, I thought I would ask again. :)

There are several reasons my husband and I decided to be serious preppers (no particular order):

Ice storm back in '94 left us without power for an extended period of time.

    JIT inventories.

We hate being dependent on others for our well-being and not one person cares as much about our safety as we do.

It is our responsibility to see to it that our family is taken care of, not a government agency.

    Freedom.

    The economy.

    Big Brother.

    That's a start..

    What about you?

All of the above and the biggie...

        Grandbabies.

Our kids are preppers, too. Guess we infected them with the independence gene. We have continuing family talks and figure we'll all end up together somewhere if TSHTF. We've catalogued our skills and supplies and are "preparing for the worst and hoping for the best". That has become our family motto. All to support the babies.

Yeah, we live by that motto as well, prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Quote from another prepper, "I just can't bring myself to trust FEMA. Something about a goverment agency that can assume complete control with zero accountability all in the stroke of a pen sticks in my craw."

I count on me. So do some others that I love very much. That's all there is to that.
Well, for me, the action is the juice.....I'm in.

Oz, you can't help but be the person you are. You, like most of us, cannot be something we are not. I am not the sheeple "they" want me to be. "They" want to provide me with "healthcare", but I provide and pay for mine and Wife's. 'They want me to... fill in the blank. I am not that person. There are only eleven things that matter to me in this world: Wife, Oldest daughter and youngest granddaughter; Son and our "Imitation Mexican" daughter-in-law, and two grandsons; youngest daughter and Son-in-law with oldest grandson and oldest granddaughter. Nothing else matters. As long am I am sure that they survive and out live me, I am happy.

It had escaped me until just recently, why I prepare. The finalization of something, the ending of an accomplished lifestyle. To return to a time before the glamorization of humanity.
I prepare for one reason, and one reason only; because civilization will eventually fall into despair. To live another day, amidst the ruins of what we once held as commonplace. The failure of the light switch, or the faucet to provide light or water, or even the home we hold so valuable to become nothing more than a pile of splintered wood.

Hi Visine, haven't seen you around much lately! You have very good reasons for prepping.

So tell me, what did you think of the results of the bank stress tests??? ;)
