2 miles. Which is why theres a perfect sniping window on the top floor and only one road and access point from the prison.

Do the words "summary execution" mean anything to anybody?

I wonder how long it would take to break out of a modern prison? Anyone wonder what would motivate the guards against simply losing the keys?

Do modern prisons even need keys any longer? I'm guessing there are SOME keys but most of the city size installations I have seen seem to run on electrical relays and computers, not good.

              Dear Bug_Out,

On top of this, a sobering statistic is that for every time a person is caught for a felony, the person has probably committed the same felony at least a dozen times, so there are violent people in our midst already.

Then, there are, of course, all of the violent offenders out on parole, all of the released violent sex offenders that don't report their whereabouts or who could conceivably ditch their bracelets WTSHTF. and all of the illegal alien invaders guilty of who-knows-what offenses who are not yet in the system.

All of these, combined with prospective violent escapees, most affiliated with violent, racist gangs, would make for a hellacious mix on the day TSHTF. When that day comes, the rule is no longer "keep your powder dry," but "keep your powder blazing."

One somewhat bright note, though, would be that people in prison on "victimless crimes" or on false accusations who could survive the maelstrom would be able to get out and start a new life. And maybe when the crisis is over, we'll arise from the ashes and make a new justice system that punishes, exiles, and eliminates the violent and protects the innocent, the peaceful, and the honest.
