The Wal Mart epiphany

As you may or may not know,I have supported a solemn boycott on WM for the past 3 tears.For at least 1000 days I have visited the countries largest retailer only once......until today!!
In the check out liiiiiiine,my wife and I waited with 4 brandamnew kerosine oil lamps,made with pride in China.
I,being myself,said to my wife''Here we are standing in line to support communism''.My remark was overheard by a(black) man in another line who said''You know I've never thought of it that way but you are exactly right''.:confused:
He immediately looked around for his wife who was comming with an arm load of commie garb.By the time she got there his arm load had dwindled to only one peice for each hand.''Look,this was made in the USA '' he said.My reply was""You got lucky''!!
He also told me he was very concerned about the economy and the FEW choices we have as Americans to buy goods such as clothing and household items that are made by our fellow countymen.
He was also surprised to hear my 3 year story and commended me on it.By the time we checked out,he had his wifes armload of commie garb down to a meager 3 items.I'm pretty sure they left with less than we did,although my smile was bigger.:)Alot bigger than his wifes!!:(

RIGHT ON!!! glad to hear it.

I have been on a personal boycott of McDonalds for the past 4 years (because I don't find the price of their food to coincide with the value). After informing a few of my buddies about it, they have told me they'll support my decision, but they'll still buy from there because it's convenient. Most of my friends are sheeple anyway.

Wal-Mart has put more small retailers out of business than anything else. I do go but only to look at ammo/supplies. I too have one of the Chicom lanterns,got it last week.

We do not shop at Wall Mart anymore either. It has been 9 months since I've stepped foot in that ungodly place.

I agree with everything everyone has said since the beginning of time about it, but right now I am married to an employee with a discount card. I rarely go thru their doors but she does 5 days a week. If you don't like shopping there, you ought to hear the stories from the employees! Sex in the shirt racks, crap in dressing room, lazy folks riding electric buggies that have no business driving anything at all, frozen food left in the T-shirts, and the list goes on and on. If you think it's bad shopping there you ought to have to be an associate that puts up with the customers! :eek:

(Oh yeah.....she went to work there after retiring from "the state" where she handed out our tax money in the form of welfare. She recognizes most of the customers! I asked her to go back to work to help me get the kids thru college. When we get this done I doubt she will ever want to be near a Wally World. Try something....the next time you are in one because the prices are cheaper, or they're open when it's convenient for you, smile at the employees and say "thanks". I'm curious what happens.)

I despise Walmart but it sure isn't the employees fault they are usually pretty good (at the store level) but the people that run the "corporate office" they really perturb me! With there un-American buying practices!

I kind of agree with you. I have always thot of Wal~mart as a clearing house for all the formerly made American goods that have all left this country because of gov. regulations, unions, etc.

I live near what used to be called the Textile Capital of the World - Greenville, SC. I used to be able to go in the outlet store (real one) and order a dozen dress shirts in my size and they would make them for me during the next shift! Can't do it now....they're made in Mexico, China, or where ever? Wish I could, but they are gone. Run out of business.

I bet the majority of the goods in Wal~mart that we think of as American can't be bought from an American company. I wish they could, but those companies aren't here any more.

Now one that really burns ME up is when I am in a Wal~mart in the low country of SC during the summer and the watermelons being sold are in a cardboard box marked with a foreign country's name! I can walk out of the door and almost see a melon field from one of them!
Needs to be a blend, I think. Local managers just aren't given any flexibility.

Wonder if I went to a Mom & Pop camping store I could get a name brand lantern from a source other than the one Wal~mart is using? I think I'll check.

Wal~mart has certainly killed the small buisiness in this country, but only a little sooner than it would have happened on it's own in my opinion.

We need to seriously consider if the man making $12-20/hour in an American manufacturing facility will ever be able to afford a car being assembled by someone making $50-75/hour assembling cars with parts made in Mexico and Canada? Things are just all screwed up! (Let's don't even throw in the bail out!)

Ditto all of the above. Especially in this day and age, WM is the last place any American Patriot should be spending their money!

I am financially secure and do not care if I have to pay double or triple what WM charges for an item, my conscience would not allow me to give WM a penny of my money.

I always visit my local merchants first before I enter any chain store. And you know what? 99 times out of 100, I can find the all of the items I am looking for locally, and usually even cheaper than the nationwide stores!

I don't disagree. I bought my digital camera (made in Japan of course) from a local camera shop for the same prices as the big boxes and got personalized service. The kicker was when I bought a nylon case. They burnt me a new one!:eek:

I've stopped buying Wal-Mart ammo....heard an interesting dicovery about their .22 ammo loads.....apparently one of my buddies weighed the powder load against another bought from a reputable store (both Winchester brand), and discovered that the Wally ammo was under-loaded by an average of half.....

The experiment ws spurnd by his kid's 10/22...he was plinking away, and started wondering why he was suddenly missing every target.....took it to Mossy Oak to have it looked at and found 11 slugs stacked in the barrel.....:eek:
