As a blacksmith (kinda) I'm able to make various items. I've made knives, brackets, large hooks (like a one-tine grappling hook) and various other little creations. I believe if bartering were to begin, I could make a decent living making items for people with their materials, putting my labor on the trading block.

An extremely good point....those of us with marketable skills should have no trouble at all finding people who need those services.....

I say its high time we learned some skills that will be needed if TSHTF, that is if things last more than 3-6 months. Think in primative times, say middle ages. What would be needed in those circumstances, since everything is bartered and very few people had coin money, so what could you do?

        Soap maker
candle maker (I know we have some bee keepers in here)
        cobbler
        blacksmith (old timey tools)
farmer (old fashioned ways of farming)
        biodeisel fuel
        butcher
        meat-growers
        hunters

Well, since I can't possibly store 50,000 cans of beans....I'll hang on to those, and won't be afraid to swap out a few .22 shells here and there......when I need some of your beans......

                    Just had an epiphany....HARD LIQUOR!!!!

Gonna stock up......think about it.....even though I don't drink often, imagine what kind of supplies you could get with a decent supply of whiskey, vodka, etc.......and liquor is relatively cheap, with ABSOLUTELY NO EXP DATE.....

High alcohol content vodka's and white rums are also able to be used as fuel if the need arose. Any liquor with caramel color in it should not be used for fuel because of the build-up of steel-hard carbon that would develop due to the burning of caramel.

That's what I'm thinkin'....you can get a gallon of Castillio's rum at the liquor store for about 5 bucks.....It's liver and gut rot, but somebody'd value it, for fuel, if nothing else.....
