I dont know whether to be afraid or furious about this. Right now I'm pretty livid. This is a bit long, so bear with me.
I have had bronchitis for a couple days, and because I'm getting ready to move, I asked a friend of mine to come help me move some furniture around. I fixed a nice dinner, chicken cordon bleu, and we were going to watch a movie after. I usually watch them on my computer. When we sat down I decided to show him some plans for the cabin I want to build. We looked at a few plans on the computer, and I noticed the xcolony screen still up from when I was reading posts earlier in the afternoon. I mentioned the site to him, just that we were preparers and sustenance types, didnt really mention the survival stuff. He's ex military, so I knew he'd understand a lot of the concerns we have for survival. He's the type to get very emotional when discussing anything military, as apparently he has some pretty bad memories and scars from his duties.
~Let me stop here and express a resounding THANK YOU to all our military personnel, vets, and contracted civilians. We owe you a debt of gratitude and thanks that we can never repay. I think about and pray for you daily. (the fact that he's ex-military has nothing to do with why I'm so upset)
Anyway, I started talking about my preparations and the year-long plan on food preparations, buying X amount per week, etc. He said, 'what people dont realize is they could get a truckload of MRE's that will last for years and years, why bother with stuff that needs to be rotated?' I said, 'because people want real food, stuff that they like and will want to eat'. He then proceed to explain to me that his provisional plan pretty much included taking what he needed from his neighbors by force, if TSHTF. I said, 'youre exactly the kind of person that this group, who happens to be probably at least 50% military or police, will fight against. And should ANYBODY try to take from me what belongs to me, not only will they find themselves very much dead, but nobody will find the body for a long long while'. He then tried to explain by saying, 'do you think that the military carries everything with them? First thing they do is secure an area and take provisions that they need'. He went on to say that ex-military will probably be the only ones to survive anyway.
I was completely floored that a man who'd spent 11+ years in the military, who knows that bad times are coming and believes things will get very much worse in the near future, would stand there and tell me that he's quite prepared to harm his neighbor and take whatever that neighbor had provisioned for his family, with no afterthough or remorse. He has no plans to provide for himself beforehand in any way. He muttered somethign about, 'youre either with me or against me'. He's alone, no kids, just a little mutt, but he's going to steal from a neighbor who has kids and put in the effort and money to save for his family.
I know there are people like that, but I just wasnt prepared for him to readily admit it so blatantly.
Lo~
