  • Paranoid or Prudent

I have a 9 mil that I carry in my truck and transfer to the boat when we go to the lake. Since I also carry concealed I only have 1 mag in the 9.

Every 2 weeks I change out the mag. I unload and reload the empty one. When I do this I am careful to wipe the rounds and not leave any finger prints on them.

Does this make me paronoid or prudent? ;)
You can't get here from there. ;)

If its a jealous husband on the receiving end of that bullet, I'd say prudent....

Doesn't sound paranoid...if you're "handling" the rounds every 2 weeks then it certainly isn't going to hurt to wipe them down. How often do you shoot?...practice? I'd use those rounds for that if you're worried about it.
I'll wash my hands well before loading my .223 AR Pmags for long term storage, that's about the only precaution I use.

I consider it healthy paranoia....I load my carry without a trace, as well.....the only mark you should ever leave is the hole...

Well said. So I guess the answer is prudent! ;)
JUST CURIOUS? PRUNES ARE DEHYDRATED PLUMS. SO WHERE DOES PRUNE JUICE COME FROM?

No danger of that. :) My wife is as good as if not a better shot than me. She head shoots her deer. :p

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to
beat you to death with it because it is empty.

The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.

My wife saw me doing the same thing this past weekend and asked what the heck I was doing. I have no good reason for doing it, but it can't hurt anything.

I guess if someone were to steal my gun and commit a crime, then at least my finger print won't be on the casing left behind.

The important thing is: There is no law requiring you to label your bullets, therefore, why do it voluntarily?

Keep in mind that if you are just changing out mags with the same round still left in the chamber you should be fine. HOWEVER, if your are constantly recycling/chambering/cycling that first round into the chamber, the energy from the slide will change the bullet depth/seating with possible EXPLOSIVE results.

                          Excellent point.

Also, if possible, I clean my mag before inserting into my carry piece.

Let me ask you folks this question, if you go to a gun show, a gun store, a range, or someone lets you hold a gun, do you wipe it down before giving it back? Think about it.

That's why I always carry a handkerchief, wipe it down then give it back. I don't leave my prints on anybody else's metal if I can help it. A little trick I learned from a Vietnam Vet.
If it looks ignernt, but it works, then it ain't ignernt.

Wow...good point...never really thought of that, but will make it a part of my shopping experience from this day forward....;)
