There's an older 8N over on Calolina Shooters for $1800 I think. Ad says it runs good, has several attachments that run $400 each I think. It's in NC too!
Here it is....
Ford 8N decent condition 4 spd $1300
Howse 4' bush-hog exc condition (less than 30 hrs,3 yrs old) $400
5' disc harrows(2 row 16 gang) bought new 2 1/2 yrs ago at JD dealership in Danville exc condition $400
Both pcs equipment were right at $700 each when new....perfect for small tractor or large compact tractor.......tractor would be very good restoration project.....converted to 12v starts and runs good.
Have no problem selling seperately or as a package(with discount)

Thanks snal,
I have been watching craigs list but this one sounds like what I am looking for the older tractors are more dependable and easier to work on. With corn right at or above a buck for one ear I am going to plow up every spot I can and grow my own. I just reclaimed about 1/2 to 3/4 acres back from the broom straw and briers over the christmas break and finished my green house last fall its going to be nice to be able grow my own food again. I have a tiller but this field is just too big to till up.
Thanks again

Another option is an Oliver 55 or 550. One of the best small utility tractor made. I believe I saw a few on craiglist in this area. I picked mine up for $1000 it needed some work but was well worth it. Mine is a diesel and I cant believe the power over the smaller 8n.
