  • Wanted: Marlin Camp Carbine .45

Just figured I'd put this here in case anyone has or knows of one for sale or trade. I only want the .45... not the 9mm. I have found many of those I don't own a 9mm and really don't want to add to my list of calibers. I have multiple .45s mostly 1911s which use the same mag as the Camp Carbine .45.

Let me know if you have or hear of something.

    Thanks
    Rick in NH

ps I've already found a couple of them in the 6-700 dollar price range. I'll use my long-slide or Python .357 before paying that kind of money for a $300 gun. Thanks

Hello, I too am interested in a .45 carbine. Can you tell me the velocity you are getting with the increased barrel length?
Those who would trade freedom for security will end up with neither.

        Hi,

I can't tell you the velocity I am getting because I don't have a chronograph... well I have one that came with a bunch of reloading stuff but it got hit with what looks like a .454. So it doesn't do much anymore...

But as far as I have read, this particular carbine doesn't give much if any bonus in velocity because it is a blow-back operation and so it is relieving pressure before the bullet exits. The bolt seems to be pretty heavy so that helps a bit. At teh range it seems to have about the same punch as .45s coming out of my long slide. If there were a way to lock the bolt forward (I'm trying to figure out if this is possible) then I think the velocity would take a dramatic step up.

I wanted this particular carbine because it uses the same mags as most of my sidearms (1911) and so for that alone I love it... I'm waiting for a couple of drum mags for it... hmmm I wonder... a belt fed Marlin Camp Carbine I may have to look into this!... anyway, this thing is awesome for me in my situation... it's a lot like a 10-22 in it's action and performance only it's a .45
I'll try to keep you folks up to date on range time... so far only had a chance to do a quick shakedown run and it feeds and functions well. The mags are a bit tricky though... I have a few that don't go in easily. I've determined that the 1911 mags with the square notch on the back side of the feed lips are the ones for this... I never realized there was a difference before but now I see it. I have a bunch of Mecgar mags and they use a semi-circle cut-out... these don't fee into the carbine for shit... the fifteen rounders I have with a square notch insert and lock in fine.

        Gotta run

Look into the Beretta CX-Storm for .45 ACP...
          73

          later,
          ZA

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to
beat you to death with it because it is empty.

The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.

A few decades ago I had one of those look-a-like fake tommyguns, blowback operated, there is a slight increase in velocity but most 45ACP is loaded for a 5.5" barrel leangth and therefore the ammo is self-limiting in that reguard. Loading slower burning powders will enable an increase in velocity but increasing pressures may deform the cases as many carbine chambers are oversise so that the brass extracts easier when the chamber heats-up during rapid fire. The blowback design does not limit velocity as the action must remain closed untill the bullet leaves the barrel, otherwise hot gases will blast out of the breach, this is usually accomplished with a heavy bolt or strong recoil spring in blowback systems though there are delayed blowback systems as well, like the original Tommygun.
